There are many reasons why somebody would want to consider grad school. I, personally, went to graduate school right after finishing undergrad at Carnegie Mellon University. In fact, it was a 5 year program that would allow me to graduate with both an undergrad and graduate degrees in 5 years. It was an expedited process, but something that I considered when thinking about my future.
For others, getting a full time job makes more sense…and then go to graduate school after several years on the job.
Each person is different, and each individual will need to take many factors into consideration in making a graduate school decision – money, time, job experience, exam scores, etc.
I knew myself, and one of the factors was the following: Do I really see myself going back to school after some years on the job? I knew myself, and it was “no.” I could not see myself coming back to school for a graduate degree. Academia was not for me. Thus, one factor was: why not get another degree while I am in the “study mode?” This may or may not be something that you can relate to, but this was a very important factor for me. Get it done while I can and in the “study” zone.
